Harley-Davidson offers free motorcycle to interns

Harley-Davidson is offering free motorcycles for those who join its summer internship program.

Eight college students or recent graduates will have the enviable task of being paid to ride a Harley and share their adventures on social media.

The Milwaukee-based motorcycle maker’s #findyourfreedom internship involves learning how to ride a motorcycle, getting a bike and exploring motorcycle culture by riding across the country.

While riding on a motorcycle, interns will also work for Harley-Davidson’s marketing team sharing their journey on social media. Interns will also attend Harley-Davidson events and meetings. They’ll also be asked to create content for Harley-Davidson’s social media pages including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.

“Through content you create, you will be helping us fulfill our mission to grow the sport of motorcycling,” the company website tells prospective interns.

According to the company, they will be allowed to keep their bikes at the end of the 12-week internship.

The job is open to junior and senior year college students and recent graduates looking to enter the social media field and lasts 12 weeks. The students will also be required to make a video, write an essay or create a photo collage to apply. More information can be found on Harley-Davidson’s website.

Over the past couple of years, Harley-Davidson has eliminated hundreds of jobs in the U.S. and seen a decline in shipments worldwide, with 241,000 bikes shipped in 2017 and an estimated 231,000 to 236,000 for 2018, Reuters reported in January. Younger generations’ reluctance to embrace the brand may be the culprit.
