CBI registered a case on 18th July this year under sections 167,218,404, 418,420, 477-A, 120_B of IPC and section 13(1)(C), 13(1)(D)(2),13(2) Act 1988 registered four another FIRs and have demanded the names of all teachers having charge of mid-day meals in the schools from DEEO of eight districts in the state Ambala, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Jind, Yamunanagar and Panchkula. during 2014 to 2018 when embezzlements took place.

According to information, in government schools a teacher is deployed holding the charge of mid-day meal for 30 students, as such there are more than 11000 permanent as well as temporary teachers on contract basis holding the charge of mid-day meal in government schools in the state. Investigation reveals that during 2014 to 2018 amount worth Rs 300 crore including amount worth Rs 170 crore towards mid-day meal was allegedly embezzled between year 2014 to 2016, which also included the amount of scholarship as well as amount spent on uniforms supplied to the students. CBI has also sent notices to all government schools about the number of students admitted in the school, how many students availed benefits of taking mid-day meals and has also called in-charge teachers for recording their statement.

Information reveals that prior to year 2013-14, admissions in government schools were being made  off-line and after this through the MIS portal in which a large number of students were found having no Aadhar card resulting in a large number of fake admissions being done in schools. Moreover, there was no record available in many schools in 12 Haryana districts due to floods witnessed during last year ‘srainy season.
