Haryana to follow Gujarat model to develop milk processing units

State government Haryana has taken decision to develop state  in the field of milk processing and production of milk products to follow Gujarat model by farmer groups with the support of  Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary &Animal Science at Luvas in Hisar district to develop organisations in the state similar to ‘Amul’ to manufacture huge variety of milk products. Information reveals, a milk processing plant was set up at Luvas years ago having a capacity to process 10000 litre milk daily helping dairy farmers in the area. Neha Thakur Development Officer of milk processing plant Luvas told that the plant is presently preparing 20000 litre pasteurize milk daily being supplied to large number of consumers in packets in Hisar area.
According to information, total production of milk in the country has been identified as 140 million tonnes, which include top 10 higher milk producing states  in the country Uttar Pradesh,  Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Tamilnadu and Bihar. Haryana produces 645 lakh litre milk every day. Among other states, the annual production of milk in U.P 23,33 million tonnes, Rajasthan 13.94 million tonnes, Andhra Pradesh 12.762 million tonnes, Gujarat 10,315 million tonnes, Punjab  9,714 million tonnes, Madhya Pradesh 8,838 million tonnes, Maharashtra 7,734 million tonnes, Tamilnadu 5,315 million tonnes, Bihar 6,845 million tonnes and Karnatka 5,114 million tonnes
Information reveals, large number of farmer groups are willing to set up own milk processing plants in Hisar and adjoining districts in order to increase their income.  Neha Thakur told that milk obtained from she buffaloes and cows is thoroughly checked for purity and obtained from disease-free animals before processing at the plant also manufacturing Cheese  and ‘Khoya’ against orders being sold at the rate Rs 300 and Rs 315 per kg respectively. Neha told that18 kg cheese and 22 kg ‘Khoya’is procured from 100 litre milk in the processing plant.
According to Dr P.S. Yadav Senior Scientist Centra Buffaoe Research Centre, farmer groups may earn handsome income by preparing milk products as compared to sale of processed milk. Dr Gurdial Singh University Chancellor, dairy farmers are in a position to earn double income by adopting new techniques as in case of agriculture farming  obtained much higher crop production when farmers started using modern agriculture implements and farm machinery.
