IAF Station Ambala’s journey from year 1919 till 2020

Ambala (Satish Handa): The importance of Indian Air Force Station Ambala witnessed increase after induction ceremony of first lot of five Rafel fighter aircrafts landed at Ambala airbase on July 29, 2020 on September 9, 2020 by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.  101 years history of Ambala airbase has bravely faced several challenges from enemies in past years. Air operations at this airbase started during British rule in India. The journey of this Air Force Station started with BE2E aircraft in 1919. During Indo-Pak war, the role of Indian Air Force Station Ambala was appreciable and brought victory to the country at different occasion during attacks at the borders..

99 Squardon of Royal Air Force was established at Ambala airbase in September 1919, started operation in September 1919 and started functioning in November 1919 when 114 Squardon was set up, which was later replaced with 28 Squardon continued functioning till 1939 and worked jointly with artillery forces in North-West sector. On the other hand, as regard fighter aircrafts started operation at Ambala airbase with BE2E aircrafts in 1919 continued with MIG, MIRAZ and now with Rafel aircrafts under the control of Golden Arrow 17 Squardon.
