Illegal mining in Haryana: 2025 raids conducted at 3950 places in 44 days

324 vehicles seized, fine of Rs 1.37 crore recovered

Yamunanagar: Cases of illegal Mining In Haryana are fast increasing since past sometime. Raids have been conducted at 3950 places in Haryana since January this year in connection with illegal mining in which 2025 raids have been conducted at 2025 at 3950 places in the past 44 days in which 324 dumbers involved in illegal business have been seized along with Rs 1.37 crore has been recovered towards fine. The Haryana government has become strict to stop illegal mining in the state as such continuous raids are being conducted by the Department of Mines and Geology. Apart from this, the department has taken many tough measures to stop illegal mining. The Haryana administration is keeping a close watch on the mining sites, for which drones are also being used, besides mining sites are being inspected from time to time, FIRs are being registered against those doing illegal mining and heavy fines are being imposed along with vehicles including dumpers involved in illegal mining are also being seized.

According to information, strict monitoring and concrete action being taken by the department officials to stop illegal mining in the state having 320 legal mining blocks, most of the quarries are located near Uttar Pradesh and Himachal border. According to a mining officer, the state government has been successful to a great extent in stopping illegal mining activities in the state. According to the department, from January till now, 3,950 places were inspected under the special investigation campaign at the district level. During this investigation, 324 vehicles used in illegal mining were also seized along with revenue of 1.37 crore rupees was also received. According to available data from the Mines & Geology Department, a large number of illegal mining is going on recording more than 100 cases of illegal mining in Yamunanagar alone mostly in quarries located adjoining the Yamuna river. Information reveals that 39 FIRs were registered in the district with effect from 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024 and 25 FIRs were registered with effect from 1st April 2024 to 15th December 2024. A survey by the state pollution control department revealed that there are large number of stone crushers and screening plants situated at Devdhar, Ballewala, Doiwala, Bhud Majra and Belgarh villages spreading pollution in the area, against those action will be taken along with FIRs registered on them.

According to available data, more than 100 cases have come to light during investigation against illegal mining in Yamunanagar district alone when action was taken against illegal activities between 1st January and 10th February this year by the mining department conducting raids. Recently, a complaint of illegal mining was received in Yamunanagar district in which two policemen were also attacked, when immediate action was taken and raids were conducted by the mining department. Investigation revealed that boulders, gravel, sand and ordinary soil were mined illegally on about 2 acres of land. The department imposed a fine of rupees 65 lakh 37 thousand 732 for this illegal activity. Also, an FIR was registered on 11 February 2025. As per the instructions given by the Mining Department, continuous investigation is being done in all the districts across the state, so that illegal activities can be stopped in the state. According to a spokesperson of the mining department the action will continue further, strict instructions have already been issued by the Haryana government that no person involved in illegal mining will be spared. If anyone violates the rules, stern action will be taken against them. The aim of this step of the department is to completely stop illegal mining in the state. This will ensure that natural resources are not damaged and there is no loss to government revenue.
