New Delhi : In a rare case City doctors helped 89 year old Mrs. Jasbir kaur beat cancer at such an advanced age using Radiation Therapy alone. Mrs. Jasbir kaur from Punjabi Bagh area of New Delhi was diagnosed with advanced Adenocarcinoma of the rectum (a type of rare cancer) last year . She had lots of trouble passing the stool, pain in abdomen and cramping and discomfort before treatment. In her case a team of doctors did detailed planning in view of her age and comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension and decided to give ( IGRT) using Tomotherapy for 25 sessions.
When Jasbir Kaur was diagnosed with cancer, she did not panic and decided to fight head-on, being the wife of an Army officer she has always learned to fight till the last breath. She started her journey of treatment with full positivity and a smile on her face after every radiation session comfortably without any trouble or issues with full belief and faith that she will be able to defeat cancer soon. She underwent evaluation after 3 months and to doctors surprise her report showed a complete remission. Her symptoms were also completely relieved. After winning over cancer she celebrated her 89th birthday with family last month. Her biggest motivation is to see the marriage of her grandchildren.

After successfully recovering from cancer Jasbir Kaur, who last month celebrated her 89th birthday said “ Dr. Vineet Nakra and team almost gave me a second life ,now I can go to Gurudwara, do my Paath and spend time with my family. I want to convey to everybody that age is just a number, do not lose hope and aim to beat any health issues you face in life”.
Dr. Vineet Nakra further said that “Radiation therapy supports the cure of cancer in patients either alone or combined with other treatments. Also, it eases symptoms, extends the survival period in more advanced forms of cancers, and is a proven treatment modality for nearly every type of cancer. Patients can lead normal and healthy life after diagnosis and treatment”
More individuals are living longer with this disease with increased awareness and early detection. The patients need to speak up and get the required help to maximize their quality of life. With the country taking a lead in cancer treatment, it’s high time when more people should know about the advanced treatment options and avail its benefits.
