Increasing syndicate crimes a challenge for Haryana police

Since past few years, fast increasing cases of syndicate crimes like murder, ransom demand, liquor and drugs smuggling, cyber cheatings, illegal immigration (kabootar bazi), illegal mining, crimes against women and financial crimes in Haryana state have become a challenge for residents as well as for the police in the state, which claim having controlled the same to the large extent in past couple of years, in which large number of hard core criminals as well as anti-social elements involved in illegal activities in the state have been arrested and pushed behind bars. Information reveals that the Haryana state government has taken stern action against the criminals and gangsters, seized and demolished their properties with bulldozers in the past one year.

Information reveals that 3,658 cases related to the crime against women which include 1716 rape, gang-rape cases in a year. State police record reveals that during  year 2020, nearly 13,000 cases of crimes against women were registered by various police stations across the state and the number of such cases rose to 16,658 cases in the year 2021 which include 1,716 cases  related to rapes and gang-rapes in the state. Similarly, 450 cases of domestic violence were registered during the year. Information also reveals that a total number of 2.43 lakh criminal cases were recorded in the year 2022, witnessing 17.6% increase as compared to the cases registered during the previous year. Cases registered under POCSO Act during the year were identified as 1,272, which witnessed 7.7% increase as compared to the previous year.

The cases of fake immigration agencies sending youths willing to settle abroad too witnessed heavy increase in past couple of years, thus cheating large number of youths were sent abroad on the basis of fake documents, those were either arrested in abroad and lodged in the jails or there is no where about of severals left in the jungles by the agents since a long time. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) was created by the state government to control drug smuggling and drug addiction among youths, which prepared a state action plan holding a large number of awareness programmes in educational institutes and village Panchayats. The Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) too proved helpful to control crimes in the state, including corruption in government offices as well as in the private sector, and took action against the large number of employees and senior government officers presently lodged in jails. Women police stations were set up in every district to stop crimes against women. Eight Special Task Forces and 58 Swat teams were deployed in the state which arrested 121 hard core criminals, 36 gangsters and 264 anti-social elements, which also identified 2,153 hot spots and 292 hot routes in the state.

According to CCTNS report, till 31st July this year 52.94% cases under SC/ST Act, 14.50% crime against women cases, 9.51% excise cases, 19.57% dowry death cases, 29.57% eve-teasing cases, 22.58% dacoity cases, 29.72% robbery cases, 9.96% snatching cases, 21.45% forcibly extraction of money and blackmailing cases have been registered in excess as compared to the last year. The report also stated that the state had relief in cases like murder, Pocksey Act,  kidnapping and automobile theft.
