INS President applauds the passing of Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill,2023

On behalf of the Members of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), Rakesh Sharma, President, INS applauds the passing of Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill,2023, yesterday in Lok Sabha.

He mentioned that this momentous occasion marks a crucial step towards modernizing the regulatory framework governing the press in India by replacing the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867. 

The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023 addresses the evolving needs of the print media industry in the digital age. He also appreciates the efforts of lawmakers in recognizing the importance of updating legislation to meet contemporary challenges faced by the vibrant and dynamic print media.

He further mentioned that the Society is committed to working closely with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting during the subsequent stages of the legislative process, contributing insights to further refine the regulatory framework.
