Panjim: Come November 20 and the theatres of Goa will resound for a week with the sight and sounds of Indian and International films, while Indian and foreign film delegates grace the shores of Goa with their esteemed presence in sharing their films.
The occasion is the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) being held in the erstwhile Portuguese state of Goa, where – with an estimated Rs 40 crore budget support from the Centre and State Government – the colourful extravaganza highlighting the visual memories of the years gone by promises to be a treat for movie-goers and tourists alike.
The opening film will be an Austrian film “Älma and Oscar” by Dieter Berner, while the closing film will be “Perfect Number” by Krzysztof Zanussa of Poland.
Eminent Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura will be presented the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the IFFI 2022 at IFFI.
Total 339 feature films (in 23 languages and dialects) and 248 non-feature films (in 24 languages and dialects) will be presented alongside the “Ïndian Panorama Official Selection” 25 feature films and 19 non-feature films in the IFFI event.
A special “Retrospective” section will witness Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Asha Parekh’s choice of three films – Do Badan, Kati Patang and Teesri Manzil – being screened on the occasion.
Manipuri Cinema is celebrating its golden jubilee with a specially-curated package of its 5 feature and 5 non-feature films being screened at IFFI.
Indian Panorama will be specially screening two films – Chhello Show (2021) and India Lockdown (2022), besides also five “Ïndian Restored Classics” – Shatranj Ke Khilari (1977), Nanak Naam Jahaz hHai (1969), Nausherwan –E-Adil (1957), Sankarabharnam (1980) and Ganashatru (1989).
The Festival will also pay homage to departed film personalities through screening of their films. These include: Lata Mangeshkar, Bappi Lahiri, Pt. Birju Maharash, Ramesh Deo, Maheshwari Amma, Shivkumar Subramaniam, T Rama Rao, Vatsala Deshmukh, Tarun Majumdar, Bhupinder Singh, Ravi Tandon, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, Pratap Pothen, Sawan Kumar Tak, Salim Ghouse, KK, Krishnam Raju and Nipon Goswami.
The IFFI International Jury comprises: CHirperson Nadav Lapid (Israel filmmaker), Film Producer Jinko Gotoh (USA), Editor Ms Pascale Chavance (France), Filmmaker & Critic Javier Angulo (Spain) and National award-winning filmmaker Sudipto Sen (India).
A total 183 international films are scheduled to be screened including a “Tribute” section highlighting a collection of films to mark the centennial celebrations of Pier Paolo Pasolini and the filmography of Jean Luc Godard. Eight films have been confirmed by the French Embassy and UNI FRANCE.
As many as 118 international film celebrities have confirmed their present at IFFI., which will also include 221 India film celebrities like Ajan Devgan, Prabhudeva, Suniel Shetty, Varun Dhavan, Kriti Sanon, Mani Ratnam, A R Rehman, Paresh Rawal, Kalki Koechlin, Yami Gautam, Illeana Dçruz, R Balki, Anupam Kher, among others.
UNICEF will be collaborating with IFFI through a section focusing on children’s cinema, besides “75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow””featuring a 53-hour challenge group competition to produce a short film showcasing their idea of India@100.
The 16th edition of Film Bazaar 2022 will see 20 films being presented where market delegates also meet the filmmakers, besides 50 slots booked by film entries from India, USA, UK and Russia for market screening in three theatres.
Caravans will be moving around Goa highlighting Goan and Marathi films, while a “Festival Mile” area has been created with barricade in the capital city Panjim.
