Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood next CBI  Chief

Bengaluru :The  central government appointed Karnataka cadre IPS officer Praveen Sood as the next director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Sood , a 1986 batch officer, is currently Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka, which will get a new Congress government after the BJP was voted out. Sood 3rd  Karnataka-Cadre officer to hold top CBI post.

Praveen Sood, to be appointed the director of CBI, has a global exposure to policing and an academic bent of mind which he showcased during his three decades of work in the state. Born in 1964 in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, Sood joined IPS in 1986. He started his career as an assistant superintendent of police in Mysuru in 1989. He worked as the SP in Ballari and Raichur before being posted in bengaluru as deputy commissioner of police. Sood will take charge from the incumbent director of CBI, Subodh kumar jaiswal, whose two-year tenure ends on May 25. In 1996, Joginder Singh and Dr Karthikeyan were the two other Karnataka –cadre IPS officers to hold the post of CBI Director.

Sood’s appointment to the top CBI post came a day after Karnataka gave a clear mandate to Congress to form the government. It may be recalled that at the start of the election process state Congress chief D K Shivakumar criticised Sood and demanded he be transferred as he was allegedly a pro-BJP officer.
