Bengaluru : The Karnataka government offered Foxconn, one of the worl’s largest manufacturers of iPhones, an additional 100 acres of land in Tumkur to set up an Rs 8,800 crore ( over $1 Billion) plant to manufacture smartphone parts. Government says the Rs 8000 crore unit will creat 14,000 jobs. The Taiwanese company had previously committed to establishing an electronics manufacturing facility for which it had been granted 300 acres in the IT investment regional near Bengaluru International airport in Devanahalli. This facility, which is expected to involve an investment of Rs 13,700 crore ($ 7 billion), will primarily assemble iPhones .
The Proposed additional facility is expected to manufacture screens and body/back panels of mobile phones that will be used by the main assembly unit.
A delegation led by Foxconn Industrial Internet CEO Band Cheng met Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah at Vidhan Soudha to discuss the matter. Siddaramiah assured Cheng that 100 acres of land would be provided near the Japanese Industrial Area in Tumkur, about 70 km from Devevanhalli. CM Siddaramaiah said, “ Our state government will extend complete cooperation”. Soon after the meeting the Foxconn representatives were taken to the Tumkur location for site inspection. The state industries department is said to be making all efforts to ensure the company will not look outside the state the proposed facility.
