Chandigarh : Drug smuggling in Haryana state has witnessed drastic increase in past few years in which large number of women drug smuggling rackets were found active in the state, especially in areas adjoining Rajasthan and Punjab states including Sirsa district known as prime centre for smuggling and sale of all types of drugs. Information reveals that since past three years police have arrested 71 females running networks in smuggling and supply of drugs including opium, heroine, charas, sulfa and poppy husk being smuggled from adjoining Rajasthan and Punjab states and supplying in retail in the area through males and females. Among prominent districts having female drug smuggling networks include southern part of Haryana state mainly Sirsa, Bhiwani, Rohtak and Fatehabd districts.
Among arrested female drug smugglers in past three years include 71 women arrested in Sirsa district ranking first position followed by 58 women drug smugglers arrested in Rohtak district ranking second position in the state, 30 women drug smugglr were arrested in Hisar district, 21 women drug smugglers arrested in Bhiwani district and few others in different parts in the state. Some time ago, Ambala police raided a female drug smuggler, wife of a former municipal committee member Ambala Cantt and during the raid police seized huge stocks of drugs in her illegally constructed godown near her residence which was demolished by the district administration by bulldozers. However the woman managed to slip in her car, later arrested by the police.
A study reveals that women in the state running drugs adopting the profession of smuggling and distribution of drugs in order to earn handsome money and running a network of youths making door to door supply of drugs in their areas. Information also reveals, many women drug smugglers arrested by the police were sentenced imprisonment but started this easy earning business again after they were released from jail. Police information reveals that opium is being smuggled to Haryana state from Delhi and Jharkhand, Charas and ganja from Rajasthan and heroine from Punjab which is a biggest centre for supply of heroin being smuggled from Pakistan. Haryana state government has constituted Narcotic Control Bureau in the state to control smuggling and supply of drugs and good results have been obtained in past some time.
