Mumbai : Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray here today approved Rs 11,500 crores as compensation for victims of flood-ravaged regions in Maharashtra.
Noting that people in the state have been hit by various natural calamities in the last one-and-a-half year, Thackeray said farmers, traders, businessmen, shopkeepers, common people, laborers have all suffered a huge loss and the affected people will be given a higher rate of compensation in the flood-ravaged districts.
Urging the state administration to ensure prompt action in the flood disaster and incidents like landslide, the Chief Minister also called for undertaking – on recommendations of the committee of experts – “desilting” of the Vashishti, Gandhari and Savitri rivers alongside construction of permanent flood protection walls within three months to control the flood situation in Mahad and Chiplun cities.
Calling for completion of under-construction projects in Konkan (including Kalu, Shai, Kaal) within three months, Thackeray directed the administration to study and decide on the DPR for Koyna water Mumbai link project within three years.
Besides a committee of experts being formed under the Chief Secretary’s chairmanship to prevent landslides, Thackeray said the RTDS system of giving flood warning should be set up on 26 river basins of Konkan region within the next three months.
