Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray assures aid to OBCs

The Maharashtra Chief Minister directed the concerned State officials to prepare a detailed report on the OBCs while also disseminating empirical data to the central government.

Thackeray met a delegation led by ex-MLA Prakash Shendge, which demanded caste wise census like in Tamilnadu and Karnataka. Food and Public Supplies minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Bahujan Welfare minister Vijay Vadettiwar, Industries minister Subhash Desai, chief secretary Sitaram Kuntek were present.  

Directing opening of “mahajyoti” organisation sub-centres at divisional levels, he also assured funding for Maharashtra state Other Backward Finance and Development Corporation, Shamrao peje konkan other backward classes corporation, Vasantrao Naik denotified classes and nomadic tribes development corporation, and the Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Maharashtra Sheep and Goats Development Corporation.
           
Bahujan Welfare minister Vijay Vadettiwar said that 72 hostels for OBC students have been decided to be started shortly.

Meanwhile, aid amounting to Rs 28 crore will be provided at Rs 5,000 each to around 56,000 artistes belonging to 847 cultural organizations in Maharashtra facing financial crises amidst COVID-19. These include: Shahiri, Khadigammat, Sangeetbari, Tamasha Phad full time, Tamasha Phad – seasonal, Dashavatar, Natak, Zadipatti, Vidhinatya, Circus and Touring Talkies, according to Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh.  

Maharashtra Textiles Minister and Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh said the city’s development projects were underway including the “Coastal Road,” besides people’s dreams of affordable housing becoming a reality.
