Major drop in crime graph during 2024 in Haryana, witnessed reduction of 23341 FIRs : DGP

Chandigarh: The major drop in crime rate in Haryana has given a sigh of relief to the residents of the state. Director General of Police Shatrughan Kapoor while talking to media persons said there has been an overall 14.62 percent decrease in crimes in 2024 as compared to previous year 2023 reduced by 14.62 percent. DGP Kapoor said there has been a big decline in crime cases in the state during the year 2024, as compared to the year 2023. He said, while one lakh 59 thousand 610 cases were registered in the year 2023, one lakh 36 thousand 269 cases have been registered in the year 2024, which is 23 thousand 341 less than last year. Similarly, there has been a 19.24 percent decrease in crimes against women such as rape, 43.72 percent in rape attempts, 36.82 percent in molestation and 14 percent in dowry deaths. Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapoor said that a total of 1042 cases of murder were registered in the year 2023, while a total of 950 were registered in 2024 as such a decline in murder cases in the state has been seen after 15 years due to the activeness of Haryana Police, crime cases decreased during 2024 as compared to 2023.

DGP Kapoor said, to deal with crimes against women cases, state police identified 1979 crowded hotspot areas and 443 sensitive places and 1381 CCTV cameras have been installed at these places and policemen without uniform were deployed outside the educational institutes so that prompt action can be taken against miscreants. Police assistance is being provided in an average of 6 minutes 41 seconds on complaints received on Haryana Police helpline 112, which have proved very beneficial to control crimes in the state. DGP said cases of rape against women have come down from 1772 to 1431, gangrape cases too reduced from 199 to 112, molestation cases from 2265 to 1431. He said, cases under SC/ST Act have come down from 1539 to 995. So far, 4943 rowdy persons have been identified by the police in the state who are under constant surveillance.

DGP said, robbery cases in Haryana state have come down from 122 to 74, vehicle thefts cases have been reduced from 17,860 to 15,577 in the past year, extortion cases dropped from 487 to 416 during the year. He said, there has been a decrease of 657 incidents of road accidents during the year 2024 in which 279 deaths and 432 injuries were recorded. He said under the campaign against drug smugglers, 950 big smugglers have been arrested by registering 438 cases of commercial quantity. A total of 3331 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act and 5094 criminals have been sent behind bars during the year 2024. Apart from this, property worth Rs 7 crore of 25 drug smugglers has been seized.

Kapoor said, Haryana Police’s relentless efforts to bolster cybersecurity have yielded significant results, with the recovery of rupees several crore in recent cyber fraud cases. He said, through proactive measures and public awareness campaigns via social media platforms, aiming to prevent individuals from falling prey to cyber criminals, the Haryana Police has intensified its efforts to educate citizens about the modus operandi of cybercriminals. Hr disclosed that in 2023, police made about 1900 cyber crime related  arrests which increased to 5156 in 2024. He said in 2023 cyber fraud of Rs 602 crore was reported in Haryana and the figure increased to 980 crore in 2024.
