Member of an interstate car theft gang arrested in a police encounter

Admitted 10 thefts in Delhi and 14 in Gurugram

Gurugram : Sector-10 crime branch arrested a miscreant of an interstate car theft gang after an encounter with a police team led by Pramod Kumar SI during police checking at Siddheshwar T-point of Sector-4/7 . Police during the search recovered a stolen Hyundai car, an illegal pistol, two cartridges and car theft items from the arrested accused identified as Sonu, resident of village Jakholi in district Kaithal. During preliminary investigation the accused disclosed that he along with other accomplices had committed 10 thefts in Delhi and and 14 thets in Gurugram. A case of theft has already been registered against the accused in Gurugram.

 ACP Varun Dahiya said that the team of SI Pramod, in-charge of Sector-10 Crime Branch was checking vehicles by setting up a barrier in the Chowk towards Sector-9 late last night when the police team signaled a car to stop. The driver did not stop the car and hit the barricade. When the police team tried to stop the car, the car driver fired a pistol at the police team and also injured a policeman by hitting him with the car, two shots were also fired by the police team and the accused driver was overpowered. The police arrested him, registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections in Sector-9 police station.

 The police recovered a car, pistol, two cartridges, six ECMs, a key making device, a programming device, a mobile phone, a glass breaking device, 23 car keys, two dongles, a jammer, chipset, motherboard, eight nut opening keys, a cutter, a plier, a screwdriver, three scales from the accused. ACP Crime Varun Dahiya said that interrogation of the accused has revealed that he not only used to hack the central locking of the car using modern equipment, but also used to start the car by changing its software. He was using a walkie-talkie instead of a mobile to contact his companions. The arrested accused disclosed that if these people ever got caught, they kept weapons with them for their defense and during such a situation did not hesitate to fire. The ACP said that the accused has been produced in the court on Saturday and remanded to police custody. The Creta car in which the accused was riding was stolen by him along with his other accomplice from Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi in the month of October. The pistol was brought by another accomplice.
