New Delhi : The upcoming Monsoon Session of the Parliament is going to be more stormy than the last several sessions. The government will bring a total of 32 bills including 21 new bills on the table of the Parliament. The most surprising thing is that there is no Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill in this list of bills. Now the question is, will the government not bring the Uniform Civil Code Bill in this session even after so many talks and speeches ?
The monsoon session will begin soon after the second meeting of the opposition alliance in Bengaluru. From the sexual harassment of women wrestlers, the Delhi ordinance to the violence in Manipur, the opposition will keep the pressure on the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. Sources say that the opposition is going to demand a statement in the House from the Prime Minister on the violence in Monsoon Session, especially in Manipur, and understanding the seriousness of the matter, the government is also formulating a strategy.
According to the news received from the sources, the government has prepared the agenda of the monsoon session in the Parliament Secretariat on Thursday, this year a total of 32 bills will be brought on the table of the Parliament, out of which 21 new bills are there. The Government is more interested to pass and making the Delhi Ordinance to a Bill, Data Protection Bill, Birth and Death Registration (Amendment) Bill. It is being learned that the government side i.e. BJP is insisting on passing the Data Protection Bill and is making a strategy on how to get it passed.
However, there is no Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill in the list of bills what is Prepared by the Parliament Secretariat on Thursday. Recently, ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke openly about the Uniform Civil Code, speculations were rife that the government may bring this bill in the next session. If sources are to be believed, perhaps the government does not want to bring this bill in a hurry, rather the concerned circles believe that they want to give more time to finalise this particular bill. That’s why the date for suggestions sought from common man on Uniform Civil Code has been extended till 28th July by Law Commission.
On Julyt 19, a day before the session, the government called an all-party meeting, on July 18, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also called an all-party meeting of Rajya Sabha party leaders. There is a high possibility that no representative of Trinamool Congress will be present in both the meetings, it is being told that Trinamool MPs will attend the monsoon session of Parliament after the party’s program on July 21.
