More than 21 youths reported drowned while taking bath in rivers of Haryana


More than 21 youths including a maximum number of school boys have been reported drowned and died while taking bath in rivers in seven Haryana districts in the past 30 days. According to the police information due to third degree heat during present hot season government of Haryana has declared orange alert in most of the districts in the state, and in most of the cases it was observed that in most of cases the victims while returning home from schools or colleges in groups started taking bath in rivers and were drowned. Jashandeep Singh Randhawa SP Ambala has directed all police stations and police posts in the district to keep strict watch and regular patrolling near the rivers flowing in their area to avoid violation of Section 144, since taking bath in rivers was not permissible.

According to information, as many as 21 persons have been reported lost their lives while taking bath in the rivers in past about a month in seven districts in the state which include maximum number of five cases reported drowned in river water from Panipat district, four cases each in Yamunanagar and Rohtak districts, three drowning cases each reported from Jhajjar and Bhiwani districts and one case of drowning in river water reported from Karnal and Jind districts. There is a possibility of more than 21  victims drowned in rivers in these seven districts since most of the complaints of missing youths are not lodged with the police.  At times, it has been observed that suicides are being committed by the people jumping in river water frequently.

In case of reports received from Panipat district, the state witnessed a maximum number of five drowning cases in the past one month including Radhey Shyam and his father-in-law Vijay Veer were slipped and drowned while taking bath on 25th March this year. Another youth Vaseek (25) was also slipped in river water while taking bath with his friend on 12th April. Maneesh (13) was drowned in flowing water while taking bath in river water along with his friends on 13th April and Model Town police station in Panipat failed to trace out the body so far. Two teenage youths were reported drowned while taking bath in river water near Batra Colony on the Refinery Road on 29th April. Ravi, a resident of village Nidri slipped and drowned in water while swimming along with his friends on 22nd May and his body was recovered after 36 hours search near Naraina.

Information reveals that one can see a large number of children  between age 7 to 12 are seen taking bath in river water near NFL in-spite of the fact there is a police post nearby.
