Narain Singh Chaura, who attacked on Sukhbir Badal to be released today

Amritsar, March 26 – An Amritsar Session court has granted bail to Narain Singh Chaura, who was accused of firing a gun shot  at former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal last year in the month of December.

Badal was attacked while performing religious Sewa (service) outside the Golden Temple in December 2024 as directed by the highest Sikh temporal seat Akal Takht.

Chaura nearly seventy years old was arrested immediately after the incident as overpowered by the Sukhbir Badal’s personal security staff member and subsequently  was booked under sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.

Talking to FW, Chaura’s lawyer Mr. Jaspal Singh Manjpur confirmed  that Chaura  was granted bail the Additional Session judge of Amritsar Mr. Sumit Ghai . He said that the bail application was filed on March 5, 2025 and decided on March 25, 2025. He was asked to furnish bonds worth Rs 1 lakh along with a surety of the same amount that would be done by his son and hopefully to be released today as no other case for bail was pending against him.

Additional Session Judge in his order said, “ In view of the above discussion, since the applicant has been in custody since  4.12.2024 and the conclusion of trial will take its own time, therefore, no useful purpose would be served by the detaining the accused/applicant in custody for indefinite period. Accordingly, bail application is allowed and the accused / applicant is admitted to bail on his furnishing bail bond in the sum of Rs. 1 lac. (one lakh only) with one surety in the like amount, subject to the satisfaction of Ilaqa/ duty magistrate “. Orders are available with FW.
