NCB: 40% increase in NDPS cases recorded in Haryana in a year

Looking at drastic increase in drug addiction among youths of Haryana state in past few years Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij started a separate Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) in the state led by a senior IPS officer Shrikant Jadhav also holding the charge of Additional Director General Police Ambala division to wipe out fast increasing drug smuggling, drug supply and drug addiction among people in Haryana state. According to police record 2746 cases were registered under NDPS Act in the state during year 2020 in which 3975 persons were arrested and pushed behind bars by the police recording between 35-40% growth in such cases during the year. Increasing cases of drug addiction among young generation including teenage females and working women residing in hostels and in PG houses is a matter of deep concern for state government.

In a recent seminar held at Kalpana Chawla Women Technical Institute at Karnal in which Dr Ashok Kumar Sharma was main speaker. While addressing a large gathering of youths he briefed awareness about ill effects of use of drugs including Opium, Charas, Heroine, Bhang, Hashish, Ganja, Chitta, Poppy-husk, use of intoxicated tablets, capsules and injections by youths demanding to take very stern action against drug smugglers and suppliers in the state playing with the future of young generation. Information reveals, Government of India constituted a law in 1985 against smuggling, procurement, supply and use of such harmful drugs as NDPS Act directing courts to take stern action against those violating law liable for imprisonment for a long period even up to life as well as death sentence to those playing with the life of others and now a fresh decision has been taken to forfeit entire property of accused involved in smuggling and supply of drugs.

Shrikant Jadhav told media persons that a helpline number 9050891508   has been released by NCB to get all information regarding drug smuggling, sale, addiction in which the name of person providing informations will be kept secret. He disclosed that as many as 74 youths suffering from drug addiction were treated free of cost with the help of Bureau and now leading a normal life. Jadhav told media persons that a ‘State Action Plan’ has been prepared in consultation with Governor Haryana at Rajya Bhawan Chandigarh a couple of days ago to save drug addicted young generation in the state when ‘Dhakad’ teams are being prepared to trap drug smugglers and suppliers in police net and save drug addicted youths adopting new awareness technologies with the help of NCC, NSS scouts, social welfare organizations, village Panchayat,  youth Red Cross and internet media to root out such evils. Jadhav disclosed that nearly 5000 youths in the state have already left taking drugs in past sometime with the efforts by Narcotic Crime Bureau.
