Nearly 50 depositors frauded by the postal agent issued fake Pass Books & receipts

Bhiwani: Large number of agitated depositors were duped of an amount worth crores of rupees by the postal department agent Leela Krishan gathered at the Bhiwani Post Office. The agent had printed postal deposit copies similar to those being issued to the depositors by the post office, duly having fake signatures and rubber postal stamps. While talking to media persons, cheated depositors said that post office agent Leela Krishan used to collect money and the pass book and return the same along with the entries of money deposited in the post office along with receipt of money duly signed and stamped by bank employee. The practice has been going on for a long time. They suspected other bank employees were also involved in this cheating game going on since a long time.

Cheated depositors said they had opened savings accounts at the post office through this agent and paid him money every month for depositing in their post office accounts. They said the agent was not depositing the amount but rather returning their pass books with fake stamps and signatures from the post office. The complainants said the scam came to light when they went to the post office to withdraw the money after the completion of the schemes in which money was being deposited in the post office, but were told that there was no money in their accounts, adding that when they showed the passbooks of the post office with the stamps they were told that the stamps were fake and no money had been deposited. They said complaints were made to the police and higher officials of the post office.

According to senior officers in post office, when first complaint about the cheating came to light in January 2023, a complaint was lodged with the Deputy Commissioner as well as police requesting to attached the properties of agent Leela Krishan, and it was found that he was having a house in old Housing Board Colony area, whereas his other properties are located in other states. Police are also trying to find out the printing press where fake postal department pass books were printed. Nearly 50 depositors are suspected of duped of money invested in the post office under various schemes and police have already registered five cases in this regard so far. Information also revealed that the  postal department has received 17 complaints so far, but during preliminary investigation they do not suspect any involvement of the permanent bank employees in this fraud and they have been given clean chit. Police information reveals that out of 13 postal employees suspected of having involvement in said fraud, eight are yet working in the post office, three have already been retired and one of them facing imprisonment in some other case.
