Now IAS officers in Haryana will not get security, Court ordered to withdraw security

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Haryana government to withdraw the security given to the IAS officer, even to a few HCS  who are getting security in the state who have been posted for civil administration responsibility or quasi-judicial work. The High Court has directed the DGP Haryana to file an affidavit and respond. A survey regarding security to political leaders, people raised a question why so, is it for the sake of status symbol ?

Chandigarh: Court ordered to withdraw security from IAS officers in Haryana, while hearing an ongoing petition related to the security given to various protected persons in the state of Punjab and Haryana.The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Haryana government to withdraw the security given to any IAS officer or even to few officers of the rank of HCS in the state who has been posted for civil administration responsibility or quasi-judicial work. On a hearing in the case on 28th October in the court of Justice Harkesh Manuja said that Haryana is a peaceful state in the country and also directed the Director General Police, Haryana to file an affidavit stating whether any IPS officer in the State of Haryana has been assigned the duty of civil administration in any board or corporation etc. The hearing in this case was adjourned till October 28.

The High Court also ordered the administration to keep the Yellow Book containing information about people being provided security and those being protected which gives detailed information about the security protocol in safe custody, though the book will be returned on the next date of hearing. During the hearing of the case in the high court recently on October 4, DGP Haryana Shatrughan Kapoor joined the proceedings through video conferencing and said that Haryana is a relatively peaceful state, no security has been provided to IAS officers within the state who are assigned with civil administrative work and responsibilities, except officers having task to maintaining law and order situation under extraordinary circumstances.

After hearing from the state police chief, the High Court asked him to file an affidavit stating that if any protection is provided to any IAS officer in the state of Haryana while discharging civil administration responsibilities or dealing with quasi-judicial functions, the same should be withdrawn with immediate effect. However, the DGP has given this information that till date no IPS officer in the state has been assigned the duty of civil administration in any board or corporation etc. The court requested the DGP to give a proper reply in his affidavit after proper verification of these facts.
