Former President Ram Nath Kovind held the first meeting with the members of the committee formed for one country-one election. In this meeting, the committee has invited the political parties and the Law Commission to make suggestions on conducting the elections of the Lok Sabha, state assemblies and local bodies simultaneously in the country. The big thing is that Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, did not attend this meeting. After the formation of the committee, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary refused to be a part of the committee in a letter written to Union Home Minister Shah. Recognized national parties, ruling parties in states,

Parties represented in Parliament, Other recognized regional parties

And the decision was taken to take suggestions from the Law Commission also. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, former Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Finance Commission Chairman NK Singh, former Lok Sabha General Secretary Subhash Kashyap and former Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari were present in this meeting. Senior lawyer Harish Salve participated in this meeting virtually. 

Let us tell you that in the notification issued by the Central Government on One Nation One Election, the time limit for submitting the report by the committee to the government has not been fixed. However, the committee started its work immediately after its formation. It is being told that after taking suggestions from political parties and the Law Commission, the committee will make recommendations to the government as soon as possible. The committee will recommend the need for amendments in the Representation of the People Act and other laws and rules for the purpose of holding simultaneous elections.

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been advocating one country, one election. PM Modi has said that if elections are held simultaneously in the country, then wastage of public money will be stopped and resources will also be saved.
