Only Punjab has right over Chandigarh, established after ruining its villages: Harjinder Singh Dhami

Raise objection to Haryana speaker’s demand for land in Chandigarh for separate Vidhan Sabha

Amritsar, November 20 – Reacting to effort made by Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker Gian Chand Gupta, demanding land for separate Haryana State Legislative Assembly in Chandigarh during a meeting with Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit yesterday, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami said on Sunday that only Punjab has the right over Chandigarh, the city established after ruining dozens of villages of Punjab and no one will be allowed to rob this right.

He said in a statement issued here today,  the rights of Punjab are being neglected by adopting different mischievous tactics.

SGPC President said that it is sad that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is also taking an anti-Punjab stand instead of representing the state.

“Punjab CM’s tweet (on July 9, 2022) is proof of his anti-state stand, in which he has tried to weaken Punjab’s right over Chandigarh by demanding land for a separate Punjab Vidhan Sabha like Haryana from the Union. Due to the conspiratorial role being played by Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Centre government is constantly diminishing the rights of Punjab from Chandigarh”, said Dhami.

SGPC President said that Punjab had, still has and will continue to have the right over Chandigarh. He said the Union government has already did many excesses on Punjab and no more of the same will be tolerated.

He said Haryana should use its own land for a separate state assembly and vacate the existing assembly in Chandigarh and hand the occupied area over to Punjab.

SGPC President also appealed to the Governor of Punjab not to support any anti-Punjab decision.
