Chandigarh : Out of total number of 19812 polling centres for 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana having polls on 25th May 2024 in which over 1.98 crore voters are likely to cast their votes, 2289 polling centres have been identified unsafe in sensitive category in which 68 polling centres have been declared highly sensitive and need heavy police security measures.The Poll Commissioner in the state has demanded 200 police teams from the Home Ministry in centre in order to undertake peaceful polling during coming Lok Sabha polls in the state as against 95 police teams were deployed during 2019 polls in the state.
In a recent high level meeting held at Chandigarh, a decision has been taken regarding security measures during coming elections in the state enabling peaceful voting.
According to the central poll commission, usually a polling centre is developed for 1000 to 1500 voters in the area and during 2019 elections no undesired incident was reported anywhere in the state, except minor incidents controlled by the police deployed at the polling centre. However, during 2019 Lok Sabha polls more than 200 armed police teams were demanded by the state government in view of the state having witnessed ‘Jaat Reservation’ agitation in 2016 as well as violence incidents held during the arrest of ‘Derra’ chief Ram Rahim.
Information reveals that as many as 15 companies of armed police to maintain security arrangements during the coming Lok Sabha polls are being deployed in Haryana by the Union Home Ministry to maintain law and order and security arrangements during the Lok Sabha elections.
