Passenger arrested  at Airport in Gold smuggling

Gold worth Rs. Rs. 67,60,440/- seized at SGRDJI

Amritsar :  December 29 – Officials of the Custom Department have seized 1068 Grams (24 Carat) smuggled Gold worth Rs. 67,60,44/- with the arrest of one person.

In a statement issued here today, Custom official said that acting on specific intelligence, officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Amritsar intercepted a passenger  at SGRDJI  (Shri Guru Ramdas ji International Airport ), Amritsar on 28.12.2023 who arrived vide flight IX192 from Dubai.

During the  personal search of the passenger in question, gold in the paste form having 1698.2 grams (Gr.Wt.)  was recovered from his possession which was wrapped in a yellow packet and concealed in his waist strip of his trouser. The 1068 grams gold of 24 carat having value of Rs. 67,60,440/- was recovered and the same was seized under the provisions of Customs Act,1962, added official.

The passenger admitted the mode and factum of recovery of said Gold and submitted in his voluntary statement that he smuggled the said Gold for consideration of Rs. 10,000/- handed over to him in Dubai which was to be handover in India, said custom official.

The passenger was placed under arrest under the provisions of Customs Act,1962. Further investigation in this matter is under process, added official.
