New Delhi- Prominent Lawyers, Activist, scholars, and MPs united in Press Club New Delhi to condemn the harassment of human rights activist and defender Nadeem Khan. Delhi Police has filed an FIR against Nadeem for allegedly promoting enmity through a video on hate crimes.

The Human Rights Defender Nadeem Khan is the Joint secretary of Association of Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) and an FIR has been registered against him on the charges of promoting criminal conspiracy.

Addressing the media persons senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan defended Nadeem Khan saying khan was only highlighting the hate crime and this activity cannot be criminalized. Instead of taking action against the people responsible for lynching and giving hate speeches, police is targeting those who are speaking the truth. He praised APCR for courageously highlighting  the civil rights violations. Another Advocate Nizam Pasha also called it a hasty action of Delhi Police against Nadeem Khan, who was just raising voice against hate crimes. The way Shaheen Bagh SHO, Delhi Police had filed an FIR against Nadeem and suddenly started raiding his brother house in Bangaluru is shocking. He has read the FIR and there is no offence against Nadeem, he added.

Kavita Srivastava the President of People’s Union For Civil Liberties (PUCL) who came all the way from Jaipur to attend this conference called it a conspiracy against a particular community. The Moderator Farah Naqvi said”enough of this madness” APCR Chief Nadeem khan always stands for the people rights, he is fighting in many courts against lynching. We need to stop this nuisance. This is an attack on the freedom of Expression, she added.

Member Of Parliament Manoj Jha also expressed anger and despair. It’s unfortunate Judiciary is watching and not taking action, “ No Hope left now “he said.  Sayeeda Naqvi emphasized the need to defend democratic values. If speaking against injustice is a crime, what about democracy, she questioned.   All the activist demanded strict actions against the police officers who lodged an FIR against Nadeem.
