Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann announces public holiday on Bhagat Singh’s martyrdom day

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today announced March 23 as public holiday in the state on Martyrdom Day of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh.

Speaking in the Vidhan Sabha Bhagwant Mann said that holiday is observed only in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) district whereas Bhagat Singh was martyr of whole country.

Congress MLA Raja Warring intervened to say that instrad of holiday debates should be held in schools and colleges to highlight life of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. CM asked Warring to tell him when is the birthday of Shaheed Bhagat Singh which Warring failed to reply. Bhagwant Mann expressed surprise that Warring was not aware of birth anniversary of great martyr.

Bhagwant Mann informed the house that special programmes would be held on Shaheed Bhagat Singh birthday on September 28.

The house also passed a resolution to install statutes of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Baba Sahib Bhim Rao Ambedkar and Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The house adopted the resolution unanimously.
