Punjab Farmers Protest : Chakka Jam protest of farmers outfit begins in Amritsar

Amritsar, October 13 – Activists of Bhartiya Kissan Union (BKU) belongs to farmers outfit, rice millers, and commission agents (arhtiyas) in Punjab today squatted at Wallha Railway crossing Railway track.

Confirming the Rail Roko joint program of different organsitions, BKU leader Mr. Parminder Singh Ugrah IN Amritsar  said that farmers have blocked the Railway Track  of Amritsar to Pathankot.

Whereas other outfits including farmers were also blocking the vehicular moments on raid at different location in the District including Attari road, Kukrawala village near Ajnala Town.

Earlier, Punjab farmer’s leader Balbir Singh Rajewal had announced to block road traffic for three hours on October 13, from 12 PM to 3 PM. This decision came as part of the ongoing agitation against what the farmers described as the government’s detrimental policies affecting the agricultural sector.

Rajewal had criticized the government, alleging that the government’s attitude will destroy both the farmers and the markets. He further announced that a joint meeting with the Labor, Industry, and Commerce Board will be held on October 14 to decide on the next course of action.

Farmers, rice millers, and commission agents (arhtiyas) in Punjab had  announced a statewide strike on Sunday (October 13) to protest alleged delays in crop procurement and the lifting of paddy. The planned ‘chakka jam’ (road blockade).

The decision came during a joint meeting in Chandigarh on Friday, where leaders of various agricultural groups voiced frustration over government policies. The protest was due to the failure of both the Punjab and central governments to begin crop procurement and paddy lifting, even though the kharif harvest season began on October 1, as alleged by farmers.
