Punjab Police arrests three accused including two shooters who shot at NRI inside the house

Amritsar,  August 26 –  Punjab Police today finally succeeded in arresting three accused including two shooters who shot NRI inside the house on Saturday. Police have also recovered the weapons ( 3 pistols)  and bike used in the crime. They were arrested two days after an NRI was shot inside his house in Amritsar.

Addressing the press Conference, Police commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon said that considering the sensitivities of the case, formed various police teams whereupon in joint operation with the Hoshiarpur police, CIA Amritsar and the police teams of Maqbulpura police station succeeded to nab the accused from Hoshiarpur district.

Those who were arrested shooters Gurkeerat Singh resident of village Butra, Sukhwinder Singh  resident of village Jairampur, Dhilwan of district Kapurthala and the third one Sukhwinder Singh Sabi resident of village Butra of Jallandhar district who was keep hawkeye outside the house of victim.

Dhillon said that during the initial investigation, it came to light that  the victim’s brother-in-law Sukhwinder Singh was in contact with the accused Gurkirat Singh alias Guri through his friend Manpreet Singh alias Manna. So, Sukhwinder Singh talked to the accused Gurkirat Singh alias Guri around five months back and told him that he wanted to take revenge for the death of his sister from victim Sukhchain Singh. Whereupon two months ago the house of victim Sukhchain Singh was shown to Guri and three pistols were also provided to Guri for this crime. Thereafter, these three came to Amritsar with pistols and stayed in different hotels.

Gurkirat Singh and Sukhwinder Singh went to Sukhchain Singh’s house as employees  of the car agency and Sukhwinder Singh alias Sabi was asked to keep surveillance outside the house of the victim. After committing the crime, they went to Khadoor Sahib in Tarn Taran district on a motorcycle, parked the motorcycle in the parking lot of Gurdwara Sahib, came back to Amritsar and hid the three pistols in the Valha Canal area and came to the hotel. Thereafter they went to Hoshiarpur with their belongings. They were arrested during a joint operation which was launched under professional policing by Commissionerate Police Amritsar, Hoshiarpur Police and Counter Intelligence, said Dhillon,

Adding further Dhillon said that when police teams went with them to recover the weapons used in crime then Gurkirat Singh and Sukhwinder Singh dodged the police and opened fire at police.  Police also fired gunshots in retaliation in a similar way, resulting in both the accused injured and admitted to Government hospital for treatment.

Dhillon said that shooters were promised for Rs. 15 lakh to carry out the crime and eighty five thousands were paid to them.

On Sunday, a day after the shooting incident, police had arrested five people, including the father of the victim’s first wife, in connection with the incident.

The assailants intercepted Sukhchain Singh when he was leaving his house in the Daburji village for morning walk on Saturday. They barged into his house and fired three shots at him before fleeing. Two of the bullets hit the victim — one in the head and the other near the chest, police said, adding that he was stated to be out of danger.
 Amritsar Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon had said on Saturday the attack was carried out at the behest of the family of his first wife. His first wife had committed suicide in December 2022 and her family had a grudge against him, Dhillon said.

Footage retrieved from the CCTV cameras installed inside the victim’s house showed his wife, mother and children pleading with the assailants to let him go.

Special Director General of Police R N Dhoke (Internal Security) met Sukhchain Singh’s family in Amritsar on Saturday.
