Punjab Police busts trans-border narcotic smuggling network in Amritsar

*One held with 4.580 kg heroin, and in another case, 2 weapons recovered

**Accused Kanwaljit Kaur was directly in touch with Pak-based drug smuggler through her son-in-law, says CP Amritsar Ranjit Singh Dhillon

Amritsar, September 17- City Commissionerate Police has busted a trans-border narcotic smuggling network with the arrest of a drug smuggler identified as Kanwaljit Kaur alias Massi of Golden Avenue, Hargobindpura, Chheharta, after recovering 4.580 kg of heroin from her possession, said CP Amritsar Ranjit Singh Dhillon here on Tuesday.

CP Ranjit Singh Dhillon said that accused Kanwaljit Kaur and her son-in-law, Jugraj Singh, son of Partap Singh, resident of Golden Avenue, Hargobindpura, Chheharta, were directly in touch with various Pakistan-based drug smugglers and had been engaged in drug trafficking. Drones were being used to transport the drug consignments from Pakistan, he added. Investigations are ongoing to establish backward and forward linkages in this case, he added.

 Sharing operation details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar, Ranjit Singh Dhillon said that police teams had received reliable inputs that drug smuggler Kanwaljit Kaur had retrieved a drug consignment, which was presently in her possession. He said that acting swiftly on the inputs, police teams laid a trap and successfully arrested the accused from her rented residence in Golden Avenue, Hargobindpura, Chheharta. Further investigations are ongoing, he added.

In this regard, a case (FIR No. 164 dated 16/09/2024) has been registered under Section 21 (C) of the NDPS Act at Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar.

 However, in another case, acting swiftly on secret information, a police team from police station Cantonment has arrested the accused persons who were identified as Vishal Kumar, Naresh Kumar alias Mani, ⁠Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi,  All residents of Village Dande, Polcie Station Gharinda, Amritsar Rural and   recovered One Pistol (.30 Bore) along with 07 live cartridges, one local-made Pistol (.315 bore/Desi Katta) along with one empty shell andOne Car (Maruti Esteem). A case (FIR No. 150 dated 16/09/2024) has been registered under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act at Police sationCantonment, Amritsar.
