Moga : One of 112 districts in the country selected by NITI Aayog under Aspirational District Programme (ADP), Moga district of Punjab is set to prepare a first of its kind long-term development plan based on residents’ suggestions.
As the New Year set in, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Moga, Vishesh Sarangal unveiled his 25-year long vision for which the district residents would be invited to contribute their ideas and suggestions. “We will launch a 15-day campaign starting within a week or so for the purpose,” he said.
With this, Moga will be the first district of the state to undertake such an initiative to prepare a plan for making it one of the developed districts in the country in all aspects in accordance with its residents’ aspirations.
Periodically, the state government seeks suggestions from each district regarding development works being done and to be done. Since Moga is an aspirational district, NITI Aayog also seeks suggestions from time to time regarding projects under the ADP in the district.
“Earlier, these suggestions were sent by the district administration. But now the district administration would like to take suggestions from the residents of the district regarding this. People will be asked what kind of development works they want to get done. Proposals will be made only after keeping all the suggestions in mind,” disclosed the DC.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the ADP in 2018 to transform the selected under-developed districts. Moga district secured 9th rank in the country for the overall performance under this programme.
Talking about his vision, the DC said that it was based on three core pillars of sustainable development, inclusive growth, and participatory governance. The aim is to create a district that is economically vibrant, socially inclusive, and environmentally sustainable by 2050.
“It is high time people start thinking beyond next year. They should think about the next generation. That is why period of 25 years. We believe that the collective wisdom of our residents will help us create a brighter future for our district,” he said.
The DC went on adding that “A district that is powered by renewable energy, with green infrastructure and conservation of natural resources. We invite all residents to join us in shaping this vision and making it a reality.”
