On Christmas night December 25, 2018, security guards of Ambala Central Jail recovered three packets containing six mobile phones, two sim cards and two batteries near barrack number 4 inside the jail thrown from outside the wall.
Sources revealed that 55 mobile phone were recovered from prisoners in Ambala central jail in the year 2012, 58 mobile phones were recovered from prisoners in the 2013, 48 mobile phones were recovered from prisoners in the year 2014 and during the year 2015 to 2018 jail security staff recovered 120 mobile phones, 30 battery chargers from the prisoners in this jail.
Sources also revealed that three jammers were installed in the jail but the same have to be removed when mobile services in all residential colonies surrounding the jail came to halt. Not only this deputy supdt jail Vishal Chhibber, Sanjay Bangad and Sanjeev Kumar received threatens to kill them.when took action against th prisoner.
On November 15, 2018, two youths were arrested while throwing two mobile phones packed in a juice box from outside the Sunaria jail Rohtak and during police remand disclosed that a racket was active in supplying Smart phones of value ranging between Rs 5 to Rs 20 thousand each to the prisoners lodged in 19 jails in Haryana state and supplied nearly 300 mobile phones from January to October 2018 and police registered 230 cases under Prisoners Act in this period during the year.
Surprisingly, it was detected that ,most of the mobile phones recovered from the prisoners were of same model manufactured by a firm and police have started investigation to find out the name and place of dealer supplied these mobile phones. According to information, there are more than 20000 prisoners lodges in 19 jails in Haryana state, which include over 19860 male and over a thousand female prisoners, of them nearly 3700 male and 200 female prisoners are undergoing life imprisonment in thee jails.
Looking at the part, it has been observed that Sunaria jail at Rohtak and Central Jail Ambala in the state have been attracting headlines in the newspaper from time to time in past years. For recovery of mobile phones from prisoners in jail, supply of drugs to the prisoners, clash between the members of gangsters in jail and operating as well as updating Face Book account on social media by the prisoners inside the jail and ransom demand by the prisoners from inside Ambala, Rohtak, Gurugram and Kurukshtra jails in past sometime.
State minister for jails Krishan Lal Panwar had announced installation of 140 Jammers inside the jail in Haryana state year go but no action was taken after the announcement. When asked on the phone, Panwar said that project of cost worth Rs 6.76 crore has been sanctioned for installation of jammers at Ambala, Sonepat, Jhajjar, Rohtak and Gurugram jails in the first phase and in second phase jammers of value worth Rs 17.53 crore would be installed in remaining jails in the state.
