Railways to promote sale of local products at 5328 railway stations

Ministry of Railways has decided to launch ‘One Station One Product’ scheme to promote the sale of indigenously manufactured products at sales counter to be set up at nearly 5328 railway stations across the country aiming to wipe out  imported products mainly from China flooded in domestic markets. According to Hari Mohan Senior DCM Ambala Rail Division, good response was seen during a trial at few railway stations in the division for sale of local products. He said, decision has been taken initially such counters will be set up at selected railway station in Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and U.P under Ambala rail division in order to see the response and in case the scheme proves successful such sale counters will be opened in 5328 railway stations across the country for which decision has been taken to charge Rs 1000 rent for each counter for period of 15 days. The proposal will not only boost sale of locally manufactured products but also have ban over sale of imported products especially from China in the country.

Senior DCM Ambala rail division told that Ministry of Railways has already sent direction as regard this proposal to all 16 railway zones to identify railway stations where the scheme has to be launched in the beginning in which private organizations as well as co-operative societies may contribute their services by opening their sale counters at railway stations all over in he country. He said, in case there is more than one proposal received from applicants willing to set up a stall at a railway station the allotment will be made on the basis of draw. He told that after allotment of counter at a railway station the party will have to submit a affidavit not to over charge or violate directions enabling to harm the image of railway department. He said, in a trial made in this regard at few prominent railway stations it was observed earning ranging between Rs 800 to Rs 1200 each counter daily was obtained at a small railway station, whereas earnings ranging worth thousands of rupees each stall every day were obtained at prominent railway stations.

Senior DCM Ambala division Hari Mohan told that in Northern Railway this scheme is being started at 624 railway stations in the beginning which include 91 railway stations identified in Ambala rail division, 121 railway stations identified in Moradabad rail division, 128 railway stations identified in Lucknow rail division, 152 railway stations identified in Ferozepur rail division and 132 railway stations identified in Delhi rail division. Information reveals that the main object to have sale counters at railway stations in the country is to encourage indigenous manufacturers and there is a proposal to sell handicraft, textile, handloom, traditional garments, agriculture products, herbal products, processed and semi-processed food products manufactured by firms licensed by the government.
