New Delhi : A reserve day has been set aside for this Asia Cup Super Four match for the next encounter between India and Pakistan on September 10. Apart from the final, this is the only match with a reserve day. The change in the match conditions was communicated by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which advised fans to hold on to their tickets in case a reserve day is required.
According to the PCB, the match between India and Pakistan will be made up on September 11 if it is not played on September 10. As a result, the Indian team would have to play two matches in a row. As per the schedule, India will play Bangladesh on September 12.
The only match in the Super-4 that has a reserve day is India against Pakistan; all other matches will be cancelled in case of rain. Earlier, on September 2, the match between India and Pakistan was called off due to weather. Due to rain in the middle of the match, only one innings could be played and no balls could be thrown in the second innings. India won the toss and batted first, scoring 266 runs. Neither the spectators on the field nor those watching the India-Pakistan encounter after a year on TV could enjoy the match adequately.
Rain also troubled India’s second match of the group stage against Nepal. However, after the completion of the second innings (23 overs), the match result was declared and Team India won the match and entered the Super 4 stage. The Super 4 match between India and Pakistan will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. For the past three days, Colombo has been inundated with rain. There was even talk of moving the matches from there. The matches were supposed to be moved to Hambantota or Dambulla, but that did not happen. All the remaining Asia Cup matches will now be played here.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board has sought compensation from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for damages caused by Sri Lanka hosting the 2023 Asia Cup matches.
This information was released citing a news agency. Although the PCB has not made any official statement on the issue, some reports claim that the president of the PCB, Zaka Ashraf, has written a formal letter requesting compensation to the ACC chief. Ashraf has also expressed his views on the attitude of ACC in fixing match dates in Sri Lanka.
