Nearly 1.81 lakh Metric Ton fortified rice have not been returned to various government agencies in the state after milling paddy crop supplied by them so far in scheduled period of which 25% stock of rice were to be supplied by the rice millers between January 15 and February 15, 2023 and 60% stocks of rice obtained from paddy were to delivered positively by May 31, 2023. But according to information, state government has given an ultimatum to such rice miilers mostly in five Haryana districts Karnal, Ambala, Jagadhari, Panchkula and Panipat supplied hardly 50 to 60% rice stocks of quantity worth about 68.51 lakh MT so far giving warning to black list such rice mills in case supplies of rice will not be made by June 30, 2023..
According to information, there are 173 rice mills in Haryana state allotted 65,83,946 quintal paddy crop by several government agencies including Food & Supply Department Haryana, HAFED and FCI to produce nearly 44,13,214 quintal rice and deliver latest by 31st May 2023 after milling. Past years scenario reveals that most of the rice millers in the state have been selling rice obtained from good quality paddy crop supplied by the government agencies at higher prices in open market to earn handsome profits and in lieu supplied sub-standard quality rice procured from adjoining Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and U.P states when action was also taken by Haryana state government against such rice millers and few of them were black-listed in the state in past years.
President of Karnal Rice Millers Association Saurav Gupta told media persons that the reason for delay in supply of fortified rice stocks to government agencies in most of the cases is due to on-line data in FCI software which is not being operated properly by the staff, thus causing delay in supply of rice stocks by the rice millers. He said, moreover during month February samples of fortif rice were failed as there was delay in making supplies to the rice millers in Fatehabad, Jakhal, Kaithal, Tohana Panipat, Ambala, Manakpur and Karnal area in the state.
