Royal Enfield launched here today their Classic 500 ‘Pegasus’ motorcycle as a ‘Collectibles’ Limited Edition for sale throughout India from July 10, 2018. Around 250 “Pegasus’ motorcycles – out of exclusively total 1,000 globally – are being reserved for sale in India online at: https://royalenfield.com/pegasus for a price of Rs 2,49,217 (ex-Mumbai) and Rs 2,40,100 (ex-Delhi).

The “Pegasus’, which was inspired by Royal Enfield’s legacy of ‘Made Like a Gun’ pedigree of making resilient enduring machines, is a tribute to the Royal Enfield RE/WD 125 Flying Flea, the legendary lightweight World War II motorcycle.

Rudratej Singh, President, Royal Enfield, said “The association with the Pegasus Parachute Regiment is another reminder of how Royal Enfield history is deeply steeped in motorcycling pedigree. Royal Enfield produced munitions, artillery equipment and motorcycles during both World Wars and supplies the Indian armed forces with motorcycles to the present day.”

“However, its most storied wartime creation was the airborne troops’ ‘Flying Flea’, — a compact but hugely capable two-stroke 125cc motorcycle — dropped by parachute with paratroopers and used by commanders to carry vital messages over even the harshest terrain, fence, stream, bomb crater or even ditch where the rider could simply dismount and lift the 56 kilo bike over the obstacle.”

The ‘Flying Flea” was deployed extensively throughout World War II as a frontline combat machine by dropping from aircraft in a protective steel cradle or carried in assault gliders towed by planes, where it was used for reconnaissance, communications and transporting soldiers into battle. To celebrate the Flying Flea and sharing its extraordinary untold story, Royal Enfield officially teamed up with Britain’s Ministry of Defence and Parachute Regiment to create the Classic Pegasus.

Mark Wells, Royal Enfield’s Head of Global Product Strategy and Industrial Design, told mediapersons here, “We approached the Parachute Regiment about 18 months ago and the collaboration has been great. Each of the Classic Pegasus motorcycles has a maroon and blue Pegasus emblem – the official Parachute Regiment insignia – on the fuel tank along with an individual stencilled serial number.”

Shaji Koshy, Business Head of India, Royal Enfield, said “Online registration will begin today itself on our website. With over 50% growth annually in last 5 years, Royal Enfield is becoming a very important player in the global mid-size motorcycle market through its product line‐up in India that includes the Bullet, Classic and Thunderbird models.”
