Rs 7.5 crore GST fraud by Sonepat firm detected

Sonepat (Satish Handa):  Team of Sales Tax Department Rohtak suspecting a GST fraud worth Rs 7.5 crore trapped a Sonepat based private firm Maruti Traders got GST registration in January 2020 for manufacturing almond oil in its net allegedly sold goods of value worth Rs 150 crore procuring basic raw material from a Greater Noida firm in nearly one and half month. The firm did not filed return for five months and in the return submitted in sixth month availed refund of input tax on the purchases for amount worth Rs 7.5 crore through as many as 78 purchase bills from a single party at Greater Noida.

Vijay Mohan Jain Commissioner GST department Rohtak said that investigation officers suspected a foul smell started investigation in the case when the firm shown sold almond oil produced by them of value worth Rs 150 crore in 45 days procuring raw material from a single firm through nearly 150 fake bills and claimed rebate on input sales tax amount worth Rs 7.5 crore in GST return. Jain said that a fraud case is being registered against the firm and in the meantime the bank accounts of the firm has been seized.

The officers of GST department Rohtak told that in June 2019 another GST fraud of value worth Rs 38 crore at Sonepat was detected by two bogus firms Shah Impex and Orchard Overseas allegedly issue 142 fake bills of value worth Rs 254 crore at nearly 18 towns in two years claiming rebate of nearly Rs 38 crore input tax in the return filed by the firms.   When sales tax department team visited the firms for verification on June 18 last year found that there was no such firms existed at the address except a banquet hall. A fraud case was registered against the firms and the owner was sent behind bars at Sunaria jail Rohtak.
