Salman Khan to spend one more night in jail. Will he deny dal-roti again?

Salman Khan, who was convicted on Thursday in the infamous 1998 blackbuck poaching case, is likely to spend one more night in the jail as a Jodhpur trial court reserved its order on his bail plea till Saturday.

The qaidi (prisoner) no. 106, who had spent a night in Jodhpur Central Jail and had his own guards, was sentenced to a five-year jail term by the court in the case and fined Rs 10,000.

According to the reports, the 52-year-old actor was served dal-roti for dinner, but according to Press Trust of India, he refused it. He didn’t call for food from outside either.

Jail superintendent Vikram Singh, speaking on the celebrity prisoner, was quoted as saying that Salman Khan would get no special treatment.

“He will have a simple wooden bed, a rug and a cooler in his cell. He was given normal jail diet like Dal chapatti and the morning meal will include simple khichdi,” Mr Singh had reportedly said on Thursday evening.

Last night, the actor’s bodyguard came with a change of clothes for him.

Salman Khan has been kept in ward no. 2, next to the cell of self-styled godman Asaram, who has been in prison since 2013, when he was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl at his ashram, media reports said.

On October 1-2, 1998, during the making of Hum Saath Saath Hai, Salman went hunting with Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Sonali Bendre and Tabu. He is accused of killing two blackbucks in Jodhpur’s Kankani village.

The local Bishnoi community was enraged and raised their voice against the act, following which a case was filed against Salman and his co-stars. However, the others were acquitted in the case.

The film industry voiced their concern and their outrage against the verdict. Many of the star’s colleagues said that he had been jailed because he is a star, and others said that justice had been served.
