Seizure of 1050 gms of gold valued at Rs. 54.70 lakh at SGRDJI International Airport, Amritsar

Amritsar, September 16 -Custom Department has seized Gold worth Rs. 54.70 lakhs at Shri Guru Ramdas ji International Airport.

An official statement issued here today stated that an employee of Spicejet who came down from aerobridge stairs after entering Flight no. SG56 from Dubai to Amritsar on 15-16.09.2022 was intercepted by officers of Customs, SGRDJI Airport, Amritsar at 4:20AM.

During checking, two packets wrapped in Black adhesive tape were found in his possession.  Nine Gold Biscuits weighing 1050 grams valuing Rs. 54,70,500/- were found concealed in those packets.  On further interrogation, he admitted that the gold was collected from under a seat which was left there by an international passenger, said the official.

The said employee disclosed that he was smuggling gold by the same modus operandi for the last 3 months .The said employee has been arrested by the Customs Officers.  The Customs department is carrying out searches in the case. Further investigation is underway to nab other persons involved in this ring, said official.
