Severe shock to thousands in pharmaceuticals sector in Haryana due to ban over 14 FDC drugs

The recent Notification on June 2 by the Family & Health  Welfare Ministry of India imposed ban over sale and manufacture of 14 types of drugs include combination  Fixed Dose Combination (FDC) drugs widely used for the treatment of infection, cough, fever including antibiotics  has given severe shock to thousands of druggists, chemists and pharmaceutical manufacturers in Haryana state since stocks of value worth crores of rupees are lying in hospitals, chemists, druggists, wholeselrsrs and they are yet in a fix what to do about heavy stocks dumped in their godowns since banned to treat common ailments the banned combinations include medicines used for cough, fever and infections and are sold over the counter and are part of 344 drugs prohibited for sale by the Centre in 2016. industry experts claim that some of these combinations aren’t available in the market currently. According to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), FDCs refer to products containing one or more active ingredients used for a particular indication(s). The ban, which comes into effect immediately, follows recommendations of an expert committee formed to examine the efficacy of these drug combinations. The long-pending move has been taken based on the recommendations of the Expert Committee and the Drugs Technical Advisory Board..

The Boardsaid an expert committee had recommended that there is no therapeutic justification for these FDCs and the FDCs may involve risk to human beings, which include following:
1. butamol + Hydroxyethyltheophylline (Etofylline) + Bromhexine
2. onium Chloride + Sodium Citrate + Chlorpheniramine Maleate + Menthol (100mg + 40mg + 2.5mg + 0.9mg) , (125mg + 55mg + 4mg + 1mg) , (110mg + 46mg + 3mg + 0.9mg) & (130mg + 55mg + 3mg + 0.5mg) per 5 ml
3. nytoin + Phenobarbitone Sodium
4. orpheniramine + Codeine Phosphate + Menthol Syrup
5. butamol + Bromhexine
6. aramol + Bromhexine + Phenylephrine + Chlorpheniramine + Guaiphenesin
7. tromethorphan + Chlorpheniramine + Guaiphenesin + Ammonium Chloride
8. esulide + Paracetamol dispersible tablets
9. xicillin + Bromhexine
10. codine + Promethazine
11. rpheniramine Maleate + Dextromethorphan + Guaiphenesin + Ammonium Chloride + Menthol
12. rpheniramine Maleate + Codeine Syrup
13. nium Chloride + Bromhexine + Dextromethorphan
14. hexine + Dextromethorphan + Ammonium Chloride + Menthol

Now the question arises how such a large quantity of stocks of banned drugs lying in the stock with medical stores, CFA and in hospitals will be destroyed by the government and the amount such stocks will be compensated by the government, no one including the officers of drug control department were able to clarify the same. According to information by Manmohan Taneja State Drug Controller Haryana , there are more than 150 drug manufacturers in the state at Ambala, Gurugram, Rohtak, Karnal, Sonipat, Faridabad and Bahadurgarh which include nearly a dozen manufacturing units at Ambala known as hub for manufacturing and supply of drugs banned banned by the government not only in the country but also exporting to other countries also now raising a question about huge stocks of such drugs lying in their stocks.
