Sexual harassment charges against Haryana Sports Minister by female coach

Chandigarh: A junior athletics female coach in Haryana sports department also a National Athlete and a member of Rio Olympics Indian Women 400m squad accused State Sports Minister Sandeep Singh also the Olympian and former Captain of Indian Hockey Team allegedly sexually harassing her. Denying allegations Sandeep Singh termed the framed charges as a political stunt by the political leaders of opposition to defame him demanding an independent investigation in this matter.

The woman, an international level athlete was recruited as junior coach under outstanding sports person scheme few months ago while addressing media persons at the residence of INLD General Secretary Abhey Singh Chautala said that she does not have the record of messages as the minister sent these undesired messages in disappearing mode. While leveling the allegations the female coach said that she was disturbed by the actions on the part of Sports Minister Sandeep Singh and action taken against the minister delayed because she was having training at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula and her injury, however she met him a couple of times at the gym and also he contacted her through Instagram asking to meet him at the Lake Club during evening hours..

The coach further said that Sandeep Singh told me on Instagram that my service forms are not filled up as such meet him when she went to his residence with all documents he attempted to touch her inappropriately manner when she resisted and rushed out and informed police who took no action on her complaint and she reached her residence disappointed. She said that when complaint was made to higher police authorities no action was taken and she was advised not to take any action against the minister, she alleged. Meanwhile, State Women Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia said that in case victim female coach makes complaint against Sports Minister Sandeep Singh the Commission will investigate the matter thoroughly to bring justice to victim and taking up matter with concerned minister for his comments.
