SGPC objects to NCERT’s misinterpretation of history

Misleading information about ‘Sri Anandpur Sahib Resolution’ should be removed immediately: Harjinder Singh Dhami

Amritsar :The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly objected to NCERT allegedly giving wrong information about Sikhs in its syllabus books.

SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami in a statement issued here today said that NCERT is misrepresenting historical details related to Sikhs. He said that recently the NCERT has recorded misleading information about Sri Anandpur Sahib Resolution in Chapter 8 namely ‘Regional Aspirations’ of the Class XII Political Science subject book ‘Politics in India since Independence’, which has hurt the sentiments of the community. He said that while explaining Sri Anandpur Sahib Resolution, it is not at all justified to portray Sikhs as separatists, so the NCERT should remove such “highly objectionable mentions”.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the communal aspect has been taken while removing some old information and adding some new details in the Class XII syllabus.

“It is sad that changes are being made according to what suits the incumbent Centre government. Curricula especially about minorities are being eliminated and arbitrary syllabus is being created. Accordingly, Sri Anandpur Sahib Resolution has been wrongly interpreted in the book ‘Politics in India Since Independence'”, said Dhami.

SGPC President said that Sri Anandpur Sahib Resolution is a historical document that does not contain anything wrong. He said this resolution talked about the state’s rights and strengthening the federal structure of the states and it is a matter of sadness that the situation is similar even today. The rights and interests of the states are being ignored, he said.

Dhami said, “It seems that the speakers of the language of Hindu Rashtra are being deliberately favoured, while on the other hand, instead of resolving the issues of minorities, the narrative is being spread against them by creating misconceptions. The spirit of communalism visible in the syllabus is not in line with the interests of the country.”
