SGPC President writes a letter to Bhai Rajoana to withdraw his decision to hunger strike

Amritsar, December 4 -The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami has written a letter to Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, who is facing death sentence at Central Jail Patiala and has appealed to him to withdraw his decision to start a hunger strike from December 5, 2023. The SGPC President has written this letter to Bhai Rajoana in light of the decision of the Sikh body’s executive committee and the suggestions received in the recent meeting of Panthic representatives. In this letter, Bhai Rajoana has been appealed to withdraw his decision to go on hunger strike, as it is not right as per the Gurmat (teachings of Sikh Gurus) philosophy.

In the letter, Dhami informed Bhai Rajoana about the decision of the SGPC executive and said that the constitutional review petition filed by the SGPC in his case to the President of India was based on Panthic sentiments, which should not be withdrawn. 

Harjinder Singh Dhami wrote to Bhai Rajoana in the letter that in his case, the SGPC has also decided to hold a Panthic protest from Gurdwara Sri Rakab Ganj Sahib in Delhi to Rashtrapati Bhawan on December 20, 2023. He said that representatives of five Takhts, Sant Samaj, Nihang Singh organizations, Damdami Taksal, Kar Sewa leaders, all farm unions, Nirmala and Udasin Sampradas, and political Sikh organizations and representatives of Singh Sabhas are being requested to join this protest. He appealed to Bhai Rajoana not to take any action like a hunger strike considering the community’s sentiments.
