Six arrested in Rs 4 lakh Panipat bank robbery

Panipat:  Police claimed to have solved a robbery case with the arrest of six persons on Sunday in a robbery case on June 14 in which armed men robbed nearly Rs 4 lakh from Mitra Branch of the Punjab National Bank at Baljit Nagar in Panipat. Ajit Singh Shekhawat SP Panipat said the police recovered a country made pistol, a live cartridge, a stolen bike and the car used in the crime from them. On Monday, the accused were produced in court, which sent them to three-day police remand to recover robbed money.

CIA-3 Inspector Deepak said, the accused were identified as Prashant (28) of Purkhas mastermind in the racket, Ajay (23) of Karad, currently residing in Shekhpura, Sahil (21) of Pugthala, Prince (23) of Jua, Mohit (29) of Kundli in Sonepat and Keshav (18) a resident of Panipat and accused admitted crime. Preliminary investigation revealed that the four had friendship when they were lodged in jail in which Prashant was allegedly involved in a case of Rs 19 lakh robbery, Ajay and Prince were arrested in a murder case and Sahil was also arrested in a case of robbing. All four were released on bail. Whereas, Keshav and Mohit were also well known to Prashant and family of Keshav was having account in this bank and both visited the bank branch to have a thorough survey on June 13 and the robbery was made by the members of the racket by all on June 14 in Polo car owned by Mohit, which was left at a distance from the bank branch leaving both Keshav and Mohit in the car.

On the complaint of Harish running PNB Mitra the branch, the police registered a case at the Chandani Bagh police station on June 14. Shekhawat said at the time of the robbery, Harish was at his brother Pardeep’s medical store situated adjacent to the branch. When he came to know about the incident, he and Pradeep reached the spot and saw four masked men held an bank employee identified as Vikas and were putting money in a bag when they tried to intervene, one of the robbers attacked Pradeep with an ice-breaking tool and the robbers fled the scene leaving their bike behind and police investigation revealed that the bike was stolen in the Gannaur area of Sonepat on June 5. On Sunday evening, a swipolice team acted on a tip-off and arrested six persons, including the gang leader from Jua village in Sonepat. The suspects admitted to planning the heist with Prashant who was their leader. During interrogation, the accused also confessed to three other vehicle robberies.
