Amritsar : Statue of Baba Sahib Ambedkar sanitized with Milk by Congress leadership here today.
The prominent leaders who were cleaning the statue were Amritsar Member Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla, former Punjab cabinet minister Dr. Raj Kumar Verka and various Dalit leaders.
They have also sanitized a book (statue of symbolic Book of Indian constitution) which was also attempted to damage while setting it ablaze but saved by the passerby who were present on the spot.
However, last evening Police arrested an alleged mischievous element who attempted to damage the statue of Baba Sahib Bhimrao Ambedkar at the Town Hall, the heritage street that goes to Golden Temple.
Police commissioner Amritsar, Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that arrested accused Akash Singh son of Bhupinder Singh of Dharmkot, district Moga of Punjab has been arrested by the Police station A division under sections of 333, 299, 326 (F), 324, 196 BNS, 3,4,5 SC/ST ACT 1989. He said the mobile of the accused which was seized on the spot was being scrutinised.
On being asked about the ladder used by the accused who climbed on the statue with a hammer in order to break it, Bhullar said that it was already there, since some members of civil society had organized a program there. But the ladder was not removed from the statue even after the program was over and the same was misused by the culprit. But this issue would also be investigated.
Bhullar said that various outfits have given the BANDH call, requesting them to maintain peace and tranquility in the city.
A Congress Dalit leader and former Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Raj Kumar urged the police to take stringent action against the culprit since the incident took place on the eve of Republic day and matter should be thoroughly investigated.

MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla strongly condemned the incident of those who tried to break and set fire to the statue of Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar Ji outside the Town Hall of Amritsar and said that today when the whole country was celebrating the 76th Republic Day, insulting those who gave the country the right to equality and celebrated the Constitution is an insult to the people of every country. Aujla has demanded an investigation into this incident. Aujla said that the state government should intervene considering the seriousness of this incident and those who carried out the incident must be given stringent punishment.
