Sirsa: Congress general secretary and in-charge for Communications Jairam Ramesh said the INDIA bloc was set to defeat the BJP during present Lok Sabha polls in the country as well as in Haryana. Addressing a press conference, Ramesh campaigning for the Congress candidate Kumari Selja as former Union Minister as well as a former State President said that the INDIA bloc will sweep all the 10 parliamentary constituencies in Haryana, besides winning maximum number of seats in assembly elections which are scheduled to be held after the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress general secretary said that the people of the country have realised that Prime Minister Modi was spreading an ‘epidemic of lies’ in the country repeatedly, as such he has already lost the trust of the people of the country.
Repeating the history after 20 years, recalling the events of 2004 general elections, the BJP had fought on the theme of ‘India Shining’ under the leadership of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Ramesh said that nobody that time believed that the BJP will lose, but the Congress led UPA made that happen and it is going to make that happen now again, he added that reports after 428 seats in five phases of the elections suggest that the INDIA bloc was headed for a clear and decisive victory this time. Jairam said that the BJP was against the reservations and wanted to change the constitution. He referred to the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s write up published on his official website, where he had strongly opposed reservations.
Mentioning some of the guarantees the Congress has promised in its poll manifesto, Jairam said that the farmers’ debt will be waived off, besides they will be provided legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP) of their crops, besides in case of any damage or loss to their crops, they will be compensated within 30 days. Jairam said, the poor will be given a 10 kgs ration instead of 5 Kg being given by the present ruling government and every poor family will also receive a monthly cash assistance of Rs 8500 to be deposited in their bank accounts. While addressing press conference Jairam said, the Congress in its poll manifesto has promised to hold the caste census, reserve 50% jobs for women in government departments, increase the daily minimum wages from Rs 250 to Rs 400 MNREGA workers and increase salaries of ASHA workers.
