Students of Jamia Millia Islamia, who were detained late on Sunday during a clash with the Delhi Police while protesting against the amended Citizenship Act were released in the early hours of Monday.
The demonstration against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) took a violent turn on Sunday after the protesters set fire at least four public buses
As per the statement of Police, they had to resort to lathi-charge and used batons and teargas shells after protesters started pelting stones and smashing cars and vehicles.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “Spoke to Hon’ble LG and urged him to take all steps to restore normalcy and peace. We are also doing everything possible at our end. Real miscreants who caused violence should be identified and punished.”
Schools in south-east area of Delhi like Okhla, Jamia Nagar, New Friends Colony and Madanpur Khadar will remain closed on Monday in view of the situation that emerged after violence near the Jamia Millia, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced. He also tweeted about the unprofessional approach of Delhi Police.
