Survey Report: Increased cases of suicides due to corona virus fear, depression & unemployment

Mental Health Division Haryana State survey report reveals that large number of suicide cases were reported during lock down period due to most of the people were seen in the state of mental depression been locked in their houses in this period. Several incidents of suicides  has been hitting headlines in the newspapers in this period including large number of suspected patients jumped from the upper floors in hospitals or multi-storey buildings in the state of fear and depression, some of them later were identified corona negative in test reports. However, depression due to sitting idle and loss of jobs due to shutters down at their work places were another major reasons seen committing suicides by large number of people during lock down. According to state health department, a team of 211 experts has been engaged in the state to remove fobia in the mind of those suffering from depression and mental tension with the help of counselling.

According to director as well as state programme officer Dr.Veena Singh mental sickness usually develops in those sitting idle locked in their house, fear of unemployment, an panic of disease in aged persons or those suffering from a chronic disorder sometimes compel them to make suicide attempt and is a matter of concern. Field survey reveals, the incidents of family clashes witnessed drastic increase during lock down period when  people sitting in their house were often seen scolding their children for one reason or the other. Large number of domestic violence complaints, rift between h8usband-wife were reported to police in this period as told by Sunita Dhaka in-charge Women Police Station Ambal. Dr Veena Singh said, epidemic outbreak in the country has adversely affected  people causing panic, unstable future in the mind of people. She suggested , people should concentrate in creative habits for their children since educational institutes  are closed due to lock down. She said, daily exercise, taking care of diet, regular practice of yoga and meditation relieves from mental tension and depression during lock down period.
