The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday apprehended 10 individuals on charges of conspiring to revive the banned Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and the Hurriyat, two separatist organizations.
The arrests were made following a case filed under sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, along with section 121A of the Indian Penal Code, at the Kothibagh police station.
According to the police, these individuals, in collaboration with their Pakistan-based handlers, were planning to resurrect the banned organizations. An ongoing investigation has revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with overseas entities, with some of them being associated with secessionist groups like the Kashmir Global Council, led by Farooq Siddiqui, and Raja Muzaffer of JKLF.
Preliminary findings indicate that a meeting was held under the guise of a manufactured pretext to discuss strategies for the revival of these organizations. It has also come to light that a preliminary meeting was held on June 13, attended by several of the arrested individuals.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Mohammad Yaseen Bhat from Nigeenbagh, Srinagar; Mohammad Rafiq Pahloo from Natipora; Shams u din Rehmani from Lalbazar; Jahangeer Ahmad Bhat from Batengo, Sopore; Khurshid Ah Bhat from Rawalpora; Shabir Ahmad Dar from Badamwari, Sopore; Sajad Hussain Gul from Panthachowk, Srinagar; Firdous Ahmad Shah from Abiguzar, Srinagar; Parray Hassan Firdous from Lawaypora, Srinagar; and Sohail Ahmad Mir from Peerbagh, Budgam.
The investigation into the case is currently underway, and it is anticipated that more arrests will be made in connection with the conspiracy.
